Hat jemand Lust, sich mit ihm ein bisschen zu unterhalten? Ich fände es nen bisschen doof, ihn einfach Dienstags einzuladen und dann ist niemand da, der von dem Thema Ahnung hat...

Hallo,
I am a PhD student in (theoretical) cryptography at TU Darmstadt. Last month I've been in Berlin for the 30c3, and then learnt that there is a chaos computer club in Darmstadt.
To be honest, the 30c3 was the first occasion for me to get in contact with hackers: my studies were in Maths and also now I am doing things that are quite theoretic... however, I'd like to understand what cryptography really "is" in practice. I find frustrating that what I've been studying so far, and what the cryptographic community considers as "leading research", is that far from the actual needs of people in everyday life. In particular now that everybody is aware of the mass surveillance programs.
I am not sure that's the right way to start having a look at Practice, but I'd like at least try to get in contact with your club. Is there anybody interested in cryptography? Is it possible to have a chat with anybody just to get an idea of what you do?
I am sorry for writing in English, but I am not German and I haven't really learnt the language since I am here (I can talk a little bit but writing...uh!).
Thank you!! All the best, Giorgia
